Two Hearted Trail Run
The Two Hearted Trail Run takes place in the remote northeastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan near Paradise. The event features a course that is approximately 80% single track and 20% dirt forest road or two-track. The routes navigate through the Lake Superior basin, offering views of the shoreline, high bluffs, and inland forests.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 50 km
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
The 50 km and Marathon routes traverse the Two Hearted River wilderness. Runners pass along the Lake Superior coastline, cross a cabled footbridge over the Two Hearted River, and run past Culhane Lake. The path continues through pine forests and along ridges overlooking tamarack bogs and 300 to 400-year-old white pines on the Giant Pines Trail. Registration for the 50 km requires participants to have previously completed a marathon or ultramarathon.
The Half Marathon consists of a loop north of Tahquamenon Falls. This course includes old-growth white pine forests and a ridge along the southern shore of Clark Lake. All races conclude at the Upper Tahquamenon Falls.
Aid stations are positioned every 5 to 7 miles. This is a cup-less event, and participants are required to carry a 20-ounce water bottle or a hydration system for refills. The event has specific time limits: 8.5 hours for the 50 km, 6.5 hours for the Marathon, and 4 hours for the Half Marathon. Registration is limited to 100 participants for the 50 km, 100 for the Marathon, and 200 for the Half Marathon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
