Tussey Mountainback 50 Mile Relay and Ultra
Tussey Mountainback holds a race day on October 24, 2026 in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, centered at 301 Bear Meadows Road. The event uses looped courses on mostly unpaved fire roads in Rothrock State Forest, passing parks and natural areas such as Whipple Dam State Park, Alan Seeger Natural Area, Penn-Roosevelt State Park, Colyer Lake, and Bear Meadows Natural Area. The terrain includes uphill, level, and downhill sections, shaded and open segments, some overlook vistas, and about the last 5 miles of the 50 mile course on downhill pavement. All distances begin and end with 0.6 miles of pavement.
Aid stations are stocked and staffed and appear every 2.9 to 5.6 miles. Ultramarathon participants have options for support vehicles and drop bags. The 50 mile and 50 km courses share the first 19 miles. Total elevation gain for the 50 mile is 5,485 ft.
Packet pickup is available the day before at the venue; individual 50 mile and 50 km runners may also pick up on race morning, while other participants must collect packets on Friday. Relay teams must provide one team vehicle to reach transition points, select and maintain a fixed runner rotation for exchanges at designated transition points, and use aid stations as transitions. Categories are open, masters for those over 40 on race day, and divisions by male, female, non-binary, or mixed teams.
