TUCARD26

TUCARD26 is an unusually complicated trail race held in Orono, Maine that raises funds for the Orono Land Trust and supports public access to private lands. The event is presented by the Marsh Island Trail Runners and has run in multiple previous years.

The race has no fixed route. There is a defined start and a defined finish and a set of waypoints that registered racers visit in any order. Waypoint locations are announced to registered racers in the weeks before race day, and registered racers receive a zoomable map that updates as course information is released. The mini course includes one waypoint; the full course may include additional waypoints or fewer, depending on releases. A final twist, called the super secret sparkle pony rule, is announced last and is intended to affect competitor strategy.

Registration details stated by the organizer include a deadline of August 1 to receive waypoints as they are released and to order a race t-shirt. Registration is always free for Wabanaki Tribal Members. The organizer notes that participants may complete the route by different means, including running, biking, canoeing, or other modes.
