True Grit Trail Marathon

True Grit Trail Marathon is a single-day trail marathon on 23 May 2026 near Bridgend. The event is organised by Mad Running Junkies and is based at Bridgend Miniature Railway Centre, Fountain Road, Aberkenfig, Tondu, CF32 0EH. Entry was limited to 60 participants and new entries closed on 1 February 2026. Minimum age is 18.

The course covers 26.2 miles of mixed terrain with several named sections and features. Runners pass a quarry section called the Hill of Doom, a downhill forestry trail that can be technical in places, and a new quarry area with slag heaps, mud and water. A later section is referred to as Mount Mayhem. The route also passes the Bedford ironworks within Bedford Park, a scheduled ancient monument surrounded by footpaths and the Celtic Trail track.

The course is waymarked and a GPX file is provided. There are five major checkpoints or feed stations offering water and small snacks. Facilities listed for the event include parking, toilet facilities, hot and cold drinks, packaged snacks, a medical team and event volunteers. Finishers receive a bespoke medal.
