Trail of Honor Memorial Run - Fort Gibson

The Trail of Honor Memorial Run is a Memorial Day weekend event held in Fort Gibson on May 23, 2026. The Fort Gibson American Legion and Trail of Honor Flags Incorporated organize the sixth annual run to support a project that will install 300 permanent flag poles, each flown with a 5x8 American flag. Trail of Honor Flags was founded in 2019 to continue and expand earlier volunteer efforts to place flags from HWY 62 to the National Memorial Cemetery.

Participants pass through a display of flags along a USATF certified course that starts and finishes at Legendary Fitness, 1121 E Poplar St. Runners may choose to carry a flag during the event; registration asks whether a participant would like to carry one. Race timing is provided by I:40 Race Service. The field has increased by roughly 25 runners each year and the organizers have set a participation goal of 500.

T-shirts are guaranteed for participants who register by May 9 and are available on a first come, first served basis after that date. The event program includes a certified 5k and a 1 mile fun run/walk. The run is presented as a way to honor current and past service members while supporting the Trail of Honor flag project.
