Trail of Honor Memorial Run
The Trail of Honor Memorial Run is an annual athletic event held in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. Organized by the Fort Gibson American Legion and Trail of Honor Flags, this run takes place during Memorial Day weekend. The event supports the ongoing efforts of American Legion volunteers to establish permanent flag poles along the route from Highway 62 to the National Memorial Cemetery. The long-term goal for the site includes the installation of 300 flag poles, each featuring a large American flag.
Participants can choose between two distinct distances:
- 5k
- 1 Mile Fun Run
The race course is USATF certified, ensuring accurate measurement for participants. Portions of the route lead runners through rows of flags, and participants have the option to carry a flag during their race upon request. All runners who register by the specific cutoff date of May 9th are guaranteed an event t-shirt, while those registering after that date receive shirts on a first-come, first-served basis.
The event starts and finishes at 1121 E Poplar St, at the Legendary Fitness facility. Professional timing services are provided for the races to ensure accurate results for all participants. This memorial event serves as a way to acknowledge current and past service members through community participation. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
