Course and aid stations

The course uses gravel country roads with a few climbs. Terrain includes rolling Cookson Hills, spring-fed creeks, steep slopes, narrow valleys, oak-hickory and pine woodland, prairies, and tributary streams that feed the Illinois River. Aid stations are staffed by volunteers, many of whom are experienced ultra-runners; volunteers provide food and basic assistance to participants. A small community called Pumpkin Holler is located on the course.

Gravel ride and awards

A gravel cycling event is scheduled on the same weekend and shares roads with the 100-mile runners. Gravel options include single and multiple loop formats, with 30, 60, and a 70-mile option that adds an out-and-back segment. Finishers awards are given to participants who meet the event cut-off and finish by the stated deadline. Top-three awards are given in each distance and category.
