The sixteenth annual Pumpkin Holler Hunnerd takes place October 17, 2026 in the J.T. Nickel Preserve near Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The event runs through a large privately protected area alongside the Illinois River and is set within eastern Oklahoma's Cookson Hills and the Ozark landscape.

The J.T. Nickel Preserve covers about 17,000 acres of rolling hills, steep slopes, narrow valleys and spring-fed creeks. Vegetation includes oak-hickory forest, pine woodland, prairie and savanna, and the course follows gravel country roads with several climbs and tree-covered sections. The route passes near the Nichols Wildlife Preserve and through areas described locally as Pumpkin Holler; the surrounding region is in Cherokee County and close to the Illinois River.
Aid stations are staffed primarily by experienced ultrarunners who provide food, basic support and station management. A separate gravel ride called the Pumpkin Holler Gravel Grinder takes place around the same weekend and shares sections of road with the running event, with multiple distance options and awards for top finishers in each category.
