Event Overview
Tour de Trails is a series of four winter trail runs held on Saturdays from December 2025 to March 2026. Each race is held at a different forest preserve or park in the Rockford, Illinois area. Participants can register for individual races or for the entire series.
Race Details
The series consists of four trail races of increasing distance, each at a distinct location:
- December 20: A 3-mile race at Blackhawk Springs Forest Preserve in Rockford.
- January 17: A 6-mile race at Rock Cut State Park in Loves Park.
- February 21: A 9-mile race at Byron Forest Preserve in Byron.
- March 21: A 12-mile race at Severson Dells/Funderburg/Coleman Forest Preserve in Rockford.
Packet pickup occurs on-site before each race. For the 9-mile and 12-mile races, an early start option is available for participants who anticipate maintaining a pace of 13 minutes per mile or slower.
Awards and Conditions
Awards are given for first place male and female finishers, as well as for the top three in five-year age groups. Award certificates are personalized and mailed after the event. The organizer notes that winter trail conditions may include ice, snow, and cold temperatures. Events are subject to cancellation by park officials, and there are no refunds in the event of cancellation. Proceeds support community activities organized by the Rockford Road Runners.
