Tactical Obstacle Challenges in Byron
Frontline OCR is an obstacle course event held at the Byron Motosports Park in Illinois. Organized by a non-profit foundation, the event aims to reflect the physical and mental intensity required by military personnel and first responders. The course features purpose-built obstacles designed to test resilience and readiness through various difficulty tiers and formats.
Participants can choose from several event distances and categories:
- 10 km (6.2 Miles) Elite, Endurance, Competitive, and Open waves
- 5 km (3.1 Miles) Open division featuring 20+ obstacles
- 10 km Ruck Division requiring a weighted backpack
- 1 Mile Kid's Course for ages 5 to 13
The Special Forces 10 km Elite heat requires mandatory obstacle completion while wearing body armor for podium eligibility. Runners in this category must cross the finish line with their vest to retain it. The Endurance class requires a minimum of two 10 km laps with mandatory obstacle completion for those seeking podium placement.
Specific Heroes waves are designated for first responders, active military, veterans, and their spouses. The Ruck Division involves walking the course with a weighted pack - recommended at 30lb for men and 20lb for women - where participants must complete all carries and crawls with the weight. The Open Divisions for both 5 km and 10 km distances offer a non-competitive environment without judges or penalties, though the terrain and obstacles remain the same as the competitive heats.
The Kid's Course provides a scaled-down version of the adult obstacles, allowing younger participants to run, crawl, and climb in a controlled setting. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
