Toughest Alive: Lazy Mountain Gauntlet

The event takes place on 08/08/2026 at Lazy Mountain, Palmer, Alaska (2955 Mountain Trail Circle). It is the first annual edition and uses a mountain loop of about 6 miles with roughly 3,000 ft of vertical gain per loop. The route includes steep climbing and a technical descent.

Distances and divisions:

  • Gauntlet (Single Loop): one 6-mile ascent and descent.
  • Double Gauntlet (Two Loops): two consecutive 6-mile loops.
  • Gauntlet Relay (2-person team): team completes two loops; each teammate runs one loop.
  • Gauntlet Ruck: single 6-mile loop carried under load.

Ruck standards specify carried dry weight of 35 lb for men and 20 lb for women. Weight must be carried for the entire event and is subject to random checks at start and finish.

The fastest finisher in the Double Gauntlet receives the Toughest Alive Championship Belt and the title Toughest on the Mountain. The belt is transferred to a new champion each year if the prior winner does not return or is beaten.

The organizer provides a tiered pricing schedule with Founders, Early, Standard, Late, and Race Week rates and indicates limited race spots. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
