Tough Mutter
Tough Mutter is an obstacle course race for dogs and their owners held on Aske estate near Richmond in North Yorkshire, adjacent to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The event offers off-road routes that pass through marsh, bog, woodland, rough hilly ground, tracks and fields.
A choice of race formats and minimum obstacle counts are provided:
- 10 km adult plus one dog, minimum 53 obstacles.
- 5 km adult plus one dog, minimum 38 obstacles.
- 10 km child without dog.
- 5 km child without dog.
Obstacles are marked to show which ones can be attempted with a dog, which are for the human only, and which can be attempted at the entrant's discretion with their dog. Every obstacle has a tie up point where a dog can be secured while the owner completes the obstacle. Many obstacles are large and include multiple components to climb, jump, wade, swing or crawl through. Obstacles are distributed evenly and closely around the course.
Near the finish there is an 850 metre assault section through deep mud and water containing more than 24 obstacles. Entry windows are listed for the event; entry fees vary by course and an extra dog entry option is available. The event specifies minimum participant ages and has categories for children and adults.
