Tough Mutter

Tough Mutter is an obstacle course race held on Aske estate near Richmond, North Yorkshire, next to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The route runs off road through marsh, bog, woodland, rough hilly ground, tracks and fields.

Routes and obstacle counts include:

  • 10 km adult with one dog; minimum 53 obstacles
  • 5 km adult with one dog; minimum 38 obstacles
  • 10 km child no dog; ages 16 to 18 years
  • 5 km child no dog; ages 12 to 18 years

Each obstacle is marked to show whether it can be attempted with a dog, can only be done without a dog, or is at the competitor’s discretion. Every obstacle has a tie-up point to secure a dog while the handler completes the element. Obstacles are spread throughout the course; more than half have multiple components that involve climbing, jumping, wading, swinging or crawling.

Near the finish there is an 850 metre assault section across deep mud and water that contains 24 or more obstacles. Adult-with-dog categories require entrants to be 18 years or older. Children aged 12 to 15 must be accompanied by an adult to take part. Event minimum age is 12 years.

Entries open 27 November 2025 and close 23 October 2026. Entry fees include: 10 km adult with one dog £40, 5 km adult with one dog £37, 10 km child £30, 5 km child £27, extra dog £15. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
