Tough Mutter

Tough Mutter is an obstacle course race held on Aske estate just outside Richmond in North Yorkshire, next to the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The event offers routes for adults with dogs and for children without dogs.

  • 5 km Adult plus one dog, minimum 38 obstacles
  • 10 km Adult plus one dog, minimum 53 obstacles
  • 10 km child, no dog
  • 5 km child, no dog

Obstacles are marked to show which ones can be attempted with a dog, which are for the participant only, and which are left to the participant's decision. Each obstacle has a tie up point to secure a dog while the participant completes the element.

Courses run off road through marsh, bog, woodland, rough hilly ground, tracks and fields. Near the finish there is an 850 metre assault section through deep mud and water that includes more than 24 obstacles. Obstacles are distributed throughout the course; many obstacles have multiple components that require climbing, jumping, wading, swinging or crawling.

Age rules and categories are specified for each course. Children aged 12 to 18 can enter the child courses with specific age windows for the 5 km and 10 km options. Adult plus dog categories require entry at adult age levels. Entry opens and closes on the dates published for the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
