Tinahely Half Marathon

The Tinahely Half Marathon is an off-road running event located in south Wicklow, approximately 40 minutes west of Rathnew. This race is a new addition to the calendar and forms part of the inaugural Leinster Weekend. The event is hosted by the Irish Mountain Running Association and is included in the Leinster Half-Marathon League.

The course covers a distance of 21.00 km with total ascent of 1100 meters. The terrain is classified as difficult, and race marking is limited to major junctions only. Participants are not permitted to use GPS devices during the event.

Due to the nature of the terrain and elevation, all participants must carry or wear a mandatory Level C advanced kit. This safety equipment includes a waterproof jacket with an integrated hood and taped seams, waterproof full leg cover, a hat or buff, gloves, and a whistle. Runners must also carry a foil blanket or bivvy bag, a map of the route, a compass, emergency food, and a charged mobile phone. Participants are required to have the means to carry at least 500 mL of water.

This race serves as a qualifying trial for the Nasego Mountain Running Six Nations event held in Italy. For those staying overnight, camping facilities are organized in the Glenmalure Valley, featuring on-site showers and portable toilets.
