Tinahely Half Marathon

The Tinahely Half Marathon is a mountain half marathon in County Wicklow held on Saturday 8th August 2026. The route is approximately 21.70 km long with about 1080 m of climb. The course follows sections of the Wicklow Way and consists of two loops of Mullins Hill, with the first loop slightly longer than the second. The route crosses the Derry water bridge and includes a loop up and down Muskeagh Hill, finishing at the junction of the Wicklow Way and Cuckoo Lane.

The event is classified as Event Difficulty 9, indicating difficult terrain with more than 500 m ascent and a course longer than 10 km. Race marking is limited to only major junctions and use of GPS is not allowed. The mandatory kit is Level C Advanced and includes a waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with emergency number stored, foil blanket or bivvy bag, waterproof full leg cover, means to carry at least 500 mL water, emergency food, map of the route or area, and a compass. The exact kit to be carried will be finalised on race day and random kit checks may be carried out.

Entry fee is €20. Entries open Monday 3rd August 2026 and close Friday 7th August 2026; the event capacity is 250 places and currently shows 0 entries. The race forms part of the Leinster Half Marathon League and the Leinster Weekend events. IMRA has arranged camping in Glenmalure Valley with coin operated showers and onsite portaloos; other nearby accommodation options are also noted. Parking, registration and post race activities are based at Crossbridge school. Competitors are asked not to park at the Derry water bridge but to park up the road at Crossbridge.

This race will serve as the second trial race for selection to the Nasego Mountain Running Six Nations event in Italy on 5 and 6 September 2026. Proposed route maps are subject to ratification. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
