Event Overview

Lug Uphill is a mountain running event located in Barravore, County Wicklow. It is part of the Irish Uphill League and serves as the inaugural race for the Leinster Weekend. The event features a single course with specific physical characteristics:

The course is marked only at major junctions and the use of GPS devices for navigation is not permitted. The event has an entry limit of 50 participants.

Required Equipment

Participants must bring a mandatory Level B kit to the race. This includes a waterproof jacket, a hat or buff, gloves, a whistle, a charged mobile phone with the emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Registrants must also have a way to carry all items. The final decision on which items must be carried during the run is made on the day of the event based on weather conditions.

Additional Information

This race is the first of two trial events used to select athletes for the Nasego Mountain Running Six Nations event in Italy. To qualify, runners must participate in this vertical race as well as a second trial held at a later date.

For those attending the Leinster Weekend, camping facilities are available in the Glenmalure Valley near the Avonbeg river. A fully marked mountain run on Bray Head in County Wicklow with a 7.66 km main route (342 m climb) and a 4.00 km junior course; varied terrain, mandatory Level B kit, GPS allowed, entry limited to 250.

Experience an endurance trail challenge in the scenic Avondale Forest Park. Choose between 50 km and 100 km solo distances or join a 100 km team relay on a supported 3.2 km forest loop.

A fully marked 21.5 km mountain loop in County Wicklow with about 750 m of ascent. The course goes over Trooperstown Hill and through Clara Vale, includes a water station near 16 km, and requires Level B mandatory kit.

Tibradden in County Dublin on 29 April 2026 features fully marked mountain running routes of 9.90 km and 4.50 km with 365 m climb on the main course. Level B mandatory kit is required and GPS is not allowed.
