Time Laps is a lap-based relay race held at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC. The event runs for 24 hours and scores teams by points earned for completed laps; each lap is assigned a point value related to its distance and elevation. Standings are decided throughout the race by accumulated points, and runners must check in at the scoring table after each lap.
Teams may include 2 to 12 participants and can be single gender or coed. Only one runner per team may accumulate points at a time, and each team member must complete at least one lap. Runners from the same team may run together between sunset and sunrise if they choose. Idle team members can take part in mini-competitions at Race HQ to earn additional points. There are additional bonus points available during three separate eight-hour windows, including opportunities tied to the event feature called "Stairway to Seven."
Registration includes a prepared dinner, breakfast and lunch, raffle tickets, a finisher’s medal and a race t-shirt. Race shirts are guaranteed for those who pre-register by May 10, 2027; finisher medals are guaranteed for teams that pre-register by April 12, 2027. The event is limited to 400 participants on a first-register, first-serve basis. Pre-registration fee is listed as $165 per person with day-of registration not available.
The Whitewater Center requires a signed Assumption of Risk Agreement before participation. Trails remain open to other users during the event, no powered transportation is permitted on course, no outside alcohol is allowed per North Carolina ABC regulations, and aid stations will not be provided on the course. Camping is available in designated team areas with a refundable $50 cash campsite deposit and restrictions on generators and space. The Whitewater Center does not perform trail rescues; participants should contact emergency services if needed.
