Thursley Common 10km

The event is a group trail run of 10 km held at Thursley National Nature Reserve in Surrey. The reserve covers 325 hectares and contains open dry heathland, peat bogs, pine and deciduous woodlands. The area supports about 20 species of dragonflies and damselflies and a variety of birds, including Dartford warblers, stonechats, long-tailed tits, goldcrests, redstarts, whitethroats and wheatears.

The route is described as the flattest offered by the organiser and includes a long boardwalk that has been recognised as Britain’s Favourite Path. Runs are offered at dusk during lighter months and at night during darker months; night runs use headtorches and take place in a guided group setting.

This is not a race. Participants run together at an easy social pace, with hiking on steeper sections and regular regrouping. Runners should be comfortable maintaining an average pace of around 10 min per mile (6:15 min per km) on trails for prolonged periods to enjoy the event. An entry fee of £22 per person applies and a car park is available. A full kit list will be provided before the run. Torches from Silva may be available to trial and an alcohol free beer from Athletic Brewing Company may be offered at the end subject to availability.
