Thursley Common 10km

This is a guided group trail run of 10 km in Thursley, Surrey, set within the Thursley National Nature Reserve. The reserve covers 325 hectares of heathland with peat bogs, pine and deciduous woodlands, open ponds and boardwalk sections. The area supports about 20 species of dragonflies and damselflies and a variety of birds including Dartford warblers, stone chats, long-tailed tits, goldcrests, red starts, whitethroats and wheatears.

The course is described as the flattest run offered by the organiser and includes the reserve’s boardwalk, which has received the title Britain’s Favourite Path. Runs are offered as sunset sessions during the lighter months and night sessions in darker months; sunset runs provide dusk views and milder temperatures, while night runs are held by headtorch in a group setting.

The event is led by an experienced, qualified guide and coach. It is run at a social group pace rather than as a race; participants should be comfortable maintaining an average pace of around 10 min per mile (6:15 min per km) on trails for extended periods. Steeper sections may be walked and the group regroups regularly. A full kit list is provided in advance and Silva torches are available to trial. Thursley is just off the A3 and car parking is available. The stated cost is £22 per person. Alcohol-free beer may be provided after the run subject to availability.
