Thursley Common 10km

The Thursley Common 10km is a guided trail run located in the Thursley National Nature Reserve in Surrey. This 325-hectare reserve is a significant fragment of Surrey heathland, featuring open dry heath, peat bogs, and a mix of pine and deciduous woodlands. The area supports diverse wildlife, including 20 species of dragonflies and various birds like the Dartford warbler and stonechat.

The route is noted as a flat course, which includes traversing the boardwalk through the nature reserve. This event is conducted as a group run rather than a race, with participants expected to maintain an average pace of approximately 10 min/miles (6 min/km) over the trails. A qualified guide leads the group and manages the navigation throughout the session.

There are specific formats based on the season:

  • Sunset runs take place during warmer months, focusing on the dusk light and views.
  • Night runs occur during colder months, where participants use headtorches to navigate the trails in the dark.

Facilities include an available car park at the meeting location in Thursley, just off the A3. Participants have the opportunity to test trail shoes and headtorches from provided partners. At the conclusion of the run, alcohol-free beer is typically provided to runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
