The Thunderbunny Trail Races take place at Strouds Run State Park in Athens, Ohio on May 9, 2026. The event offers three distances:

  • 50K
  • 25K
  • 11K

The event is held under special use permits from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The overall field is limited to 400 combined participants; a waitlist is used if the event reaches capacity.

Course, cutoffs, camping and entries

The courses use predominately singletrack trail and include paved and gravel sections. Terrain summaries:

  • 50K: 3517 feet elevation gain, 29 miles singletrack, 1 mile gravel, 1 mile pavement.
  • 25K: 1608 feet elevation gain, 16.1 miles singletrack, 1 mile pavement.
  • 11K: 610 feet elevation gain, 5.84 miles singletrack, 1 mile pavement.

The 50K and 25K share aid station cutoff rules with a 9-hour course cutoff; the Dow Lake Dam aid station is the key hard cutoff location where longer-distance cutoff requirements begin. The 11K does not have a hard cutoff and is described as suitable for hikers. Group camping is offered for a fee with primitive amenities; individual campsites are available through the park. Run the Iron Furnace Trail Runs at Lake Hope State Park on April 4, 2026, choosing a rugged 13.1 mile or a punchy 5 mile course through scenic singletrack. Limited to 250 runners, every finisher earns a wooden award.
