Three Shires Fell Race
The Three Shires Fell Race is scheduled for Saturday 26 September 2026 and uses a route that was new from 2025. It is categorised AL and covers 22 km (about 12.4 miles) with approximately 1,535 m of ascent. The event is a counter for the Lakeland Classics Trophy and is run under Fell Runners Association rules.
The venue is Tilberthwaite Farm. Access involves narrow roads and road width is limited. Entry is by SportIdent entries from 1 July, entries close on 18 September, there is a limit of 350 runners and there will be no entries on the day. Entry fees are £16 for FRA members and £18 for non FRA members.
The route starts and finishes at Tilberthwaite Farm and visits the following checkpoints with grid references: Lingmoor GR 302 046; Pike of Blisco GR 272 042; Three Shires Stone GR 276 027; Great Carrs GR 270 009; Wetherlam GR 288 011; and a Tarn at GR 294 993. Two flagged sections guide runners out from the farm to the bottom of Lingmoor and back from the top of Tilberthwaite Gill to ensure use of the southern path to Tilberthwaite.
The organisers state GPS navigation is not permitted and that runners must meet FRA minimum kit requirements including map, compass, whistle, full wet weather cover, hat and gloves.
