Thom B Trail Runs

Thom B Trail Runs take place at Hammond Hill State Forest and use portions of the Finger Lakes Trail and the DEC trail system. The event is based at the parking lot near the trailhead and consists of a roughly 8.5 mile loop that is run once, twice, or three times. Marathon runners complete a 0.7 mile baby loop then three 8.5 mile loops to reach 26.2 miles. Two aid stations are on course: one midway through the loop and one at the start/finish.

Distances:

  • 8.5 mile loop run once
  • 17 mile two-loop option
  • 26.2 mile marathon with baby loop plus three loops

The course is well marked with arrows and flags; runners are advised to stay alert on the interconnected trail network. The race has specific cut-offs: a two hour limit to finish Loop 1 and begin Loop 2 for the 17 mile event, and a two hour limit to complete each marathon loop. Port a potties are available at the start/finish. Parking at the Hammond Hill lot is limited and the organizers encourage carpooling to reduce congestion.

Entry is by online registration only and the field is limited to 150 participants across all distances. Fees and age or membership discounts apply; runners 18 and under may register free. The event awards overall and age group prizes across male, female, and nonbinary categories. The organizers note common trail hazards such as mud, uneven footing, fallen logs, and road crossings.
