The Winter Green Man Ultra is a looped trail race around the Community Forest Path near Bristol. Distances offered:

  • 45 miles / 72 kilometres
  • 30 miles / 48 kilometres

The 45 mile race is a full anti-clockwise loop starting and finishing at Ashton Park School. The 30 mile event is a partial anti-clockwise loop that starts near Keynsham and finishes at Ashton Park School. The 45 mile course lists about 945 metres ascent, a 12 hour cut-off, four checkpoints and 3 UTMB points. The 30 mile course lists about 580 metres ascent, a 9 hour cut-off and two checkpoints.

Course support, rules and kit

The course is self-navigation. GPX files and written directions are provided by the organiser and pacers called timelords run to target finish hours to help with navigation and pacing. Checkpoints offer water and a selection of food; example items include sandwiches, malt loaf, cake, squash, cola and hot soup at the finish. The race is cup-free so runners must carry a reusable cup. Some checkpoint toilets are external or portaloo only; inside checkpoint buildings are not available to competitors after they start.

All entrants must be at least 20 years old and carry mandatory kit. Required items include a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, printed map or GPS, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, emergency food and a basic first aid kit.
