The Winter Gmu
Bristol, United Kingdom • 7 Mar 2026
The Winter Green Man Ultra (Winter GMU) is a challenging ultra marathon held annually around Bristol, UK. It offers two distances: a 45-mile (72 km) full loop and a 30-mile (48 km) partial loop of the Community Forest Path, both run anti-clockwise in winter. The course features approximately 945 meters of elevation gain and includes four well-stocked checkpoints providing food, drink, and toilets.
The event is known for its muddy, tough terrain in winter, contrasting with a firmer, faster summer edition run in the opposite direction. Finishers receive bespoke medals and technical t-shirts, with hot food available at the finish. Navigation is self-guided, with pacers ("timelords") assisting runners targeting 9 to 12-hour finish times.
The race supports Avon Wildlife Trust and emphasizes environmental care along the route. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
