The Wasatch Yard - Backyard Ultra at Round Valley
The Wasatch Yard is a backyard ultra held at Round Valley Quinn's Trailhead in Park City, UT. The course uses a loop of 4.167 miles with approximately 249 ft of elevation gain per loop. A new loop begins each hour and each loop must be completed within 60 minutes to continue; missing the bell or the cutoff results in a DNF. The event continues until one runner completes one more loop than all others.
Aid is available only at the start/finish yard. The event is cupless; runners must carry their own bottles or soft flasks and bring primary calories. Basecamp provides water, electrolyte drink, coffee and tea, light snacks, and pizza on the second day. Manual timing logs each completed loop.
Field size is limited to 100 runners. Night running requires a headlamp and a backup light and batteries. Course markings include flagging, signs, and reflective markers for night navigation. Crew and aid are restricted to the yard; each runner has roughly a 6' by 6' space for gear and small shelters if wind conditions permit. No pacers are allowed.
Sponsors include Mount to Coast, which will demo shoes and provide several prize pairs, and BUFF, which supplies a discount code and will run giveaways during the event. Parking is at the trailhead with overflow options posted on race day. Leave No Trace practices are requested. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
