The Universal Sole Spring Trail Challenge

The Universal Sole Spring Trail Challenge takes place in the Wolf Road Woods, a section of the Palos Trail System in Willow Springs. Participants run the Three Ravines Course, which features a combination of double-track and single-track trails across undulating terrain. The surface consists of crushed limestone, dirt, rocks, and roots, with the possibility of mud depending on spring weather conditions.

Races offer two distance options:

  • 3.1 Mile Trail Run Loop
  • 5.4 Mile Trail Run Loop

The event follows a laid-back format and is open to participants of various ages and ability levels. Strollers and leashed dogs are permitted, provided they start in the final starting group. Due to local regulations, aid stations are positioned at the start, finish, and the halfway point rather than along the trails. Participants are encouraged to carry their own hydration packs or bottles for water and nutrition.

Post-race amenities include granola bars, bananas, and craft beverages for all runners. A raffle featuring prizes from sponsors also takes place on-site. The event organizers partner with Reduce Waste Chicago to collect old running shoes for recycling. Custom award tiles are provided for overall winners in male, female, and non-binary categories for both distances, while the 5.4 Mile race includes additional awards for top finishers in various age groups.
