The Ultra Loop at Heaton Park
The Ultra Loop is an eight hour running event at Heaton Park in Manchester where participants run repeated 5.6 km loops and aim to cover as much distance as they can within the time limit. Any lap not completed before the cut off is not included in final results. Results show number of laps, total distance and elapsed time, and all finishers receive a finishing time and a medal.
The route is a mixed terrain 5.6 kilometre loop that combines woodland trail and park road with approximately 80 m of elevation. The course passes the Boating Lake and Heaton Hall and includes trails and streams. The route is mostly on asphalt paths but has some uphill trail sections and is not on a closed course, so participants may encounter walkers and dog walkers. Organisers recommend road shoes with good grip or light trail shoes suitable for road.
The start and finish area acts as the single aid station and spectator area. There is a bag drop accessible throughout the day and participants may leave food and drink at the aid station. The aid station provides water, fruit, sweet and savoury snacks, energy bars and electrolytes. Attendees are asked to bring their own bottles for refilling as cups will not be provided. Portaloos are available near the aid station.
Entry is open for either the Saturday or Sunday event, or for both days. The Sunday route is run in reverse and combined distances from both days are recorded in a separate leaderboard. Participants under 12 are not permitted. Those aged 12 to 15 must have a parent or guardian arrange their place and attend the event with them.
