The Trail Trot - South Downs trail running event
The Trail Trot is a trail running event in the South Downs, West Sussex, returning for 2026 with a new name after an inaugural edition under a different title. The event offers multiple distances:
- 5K
- 10K
- Marathon
- 50K
The event is based on the grounds of Lancing College. Routes use a network of trails, bridleways, and countryside paths and include grassy trails, chalk paths, village footways, and panoramic ridgelines. Shorter routes pass hilltop views at Lancing Ring. The Marathon and 50K extend further into the Downs and pass landmarks such as Cissbury Ring, Chanctonbury Ring, and the market town of Steyning.
Course services and logistics include an accurately measured course with clear signage, timing with chips, fully stocked aid stations supplying water, gels and fruit, bespoke event medals, toilets on site, a free baggage drop by Race HQ, and race day photography at the event village and on course. Finishers receive a complimentary drink or snack at the Finishers Marquee and may collect purchased t shirts there. The course is marshalled and supported by a traffic management company. A 15 percent group discount is available for five or more entries.
For the 50K, runners must carry at least 500 ml of fluid; hydration vests or handheld soft flasks are permitted. Runners are advised to carry appropriate clothing for changeable weather and to download the GPX file of their route. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
