The Rugged Raccoon Night Race 2026

The Rugged Raccoon Trail Race takes place at the Wildwood Conservation Area in St. Marys, Ontario. This Athletics Ontario sanctioned event features a course with a variety of terrain, including rocks, roots, and lake views. While some climbs are present, the route includes several long, flat sections and is known for having muddy conditions in early May.

Participants can choose from several distance options:

  • 10 km: An out-and-back course where runners start and finish in the dark.
  • 25 km: Available as both a day race and a night race. The night version starts before sunset to allow runners to adjust to the trail before dark.
  • 50 km: A double loop of the 25 km course, totaling approximately 48 km.

For night segments, all participants are required to carry a headlamp or flashlight with a minimum of 100 lumens. Early start options are available for the 25 km and 50 km distances to accommodate walkers or runners who require more time to complete the course before the final cut-off.

The event is cup-less, meaning runners must carry their own collapsible cup or bottle for use at the four aid stations. Registration includes a shirt, a race medal, and chip timing. Group camping is available at the Wildwood site by booking through the park. The race supports Ontario Nature and its youth conservation programs.
