Persistence Backyard Ultra

Arva, Canada • 1 Aug 2026

Description

The Persistence Backyard Ultra is an official affiliated event of Lazarus Lake's Big Dog's Backyard Ultra format. This is the fifth edition of what is described as Ontario's original affiliated backyard ultra. The event takes place at Eco Park, located at 15889 Medway Road in Arva, just outside of London.

The event follows the standard backyard ultra format. Runners must complete a 6.7056-kilometre loop every hour, indefinitely. The last runner standing—the one who completes one more loop than all others—is declared the winner. The loop consists of two consecutive laps of a smaller, approximately 3.36-kilometre circuit. The course is described as very runnable, made up of crushed stone trail, grass, and a dirt road.

The race is capped at 67 participants. This year's event is a Silver Ticket race, meaning the winner receives automatic entry to the World Team Championship. The winner will also receive the coveted "Laz Jacket", a silver coin, a free entry to next year's event, and financial assistance for travel to the championship.

Each participant receives a commemorative hoodie. Runners and their crew (limited to two people) are required to bring all their own food and drinks. Medical support will be on-site. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
