The Farthest

The Farthest is an event in London, Ontario, Canada, where the goal is to get as far away as possible from a common start point within a set time. This is not a virtual race; all runners begin at the same location at the same time. Three formats are offered: 8 hours, 4 hours, and 2 hours. The winner is the runner who is farthest from the start "as the crow flies," which may differ from the runner who covers the greatest route distance.

Each runner chooses their own route. Safety rules require use of sidewalks when available, obeying traffic signals, and avoiding major highways. Live tracking via Google Maps is required and runners must text their location every two hours. There is a mandatory pre-race meeting and runners receive a race bib. Support crews and pacers are allowed; crews may provide aid only when a runner is not moving. Runners must always travel under their own power and must arrange an emergency pickup person whose contact information is submitted before the event. Organizers provide no transportation.

Entry begins with a free application; successful applicants receive an access code to complete entry and pay fees. The event is capped at 30 runners, minimum age is 18, and certain participants may be automatically accepted based on prior performance. Swag includes a souvenir drinking glass and a poker chip. Overall winners receive a custom award delivered after the event. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Children's Health Foundation. Withdrawal before May 20 yields a full race credit minus taxes, fees, and donation; later withdrawal yields a 50 percent credit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
