The Rooted Half Marathon & 5K

The Rooted Half Marathon & 5K takes place on September 27, 2026, at Orion Oaks County Park, 1200 Joslyn Rd, Lake Orion, MI 48360. The event uses well maintained multi use trails that run through wooded and grassy areas. The terrain is described as a mix of flat to gently rolling trail surfaces.

The event includes the following race distances:

  • Half Marathon - 13.1 miles, two loops
  • 5K Run/Walk - 3.1 miles
  • 5K Run/Walk Doggie Division - 3.1 miles, capped at 50 dogs
  • Virtual Half Marathon - 13.1 miles
  • Virtual 5K Run/Walk - 3.1 miles

Dogs must be leashed at all times in the event staging area and on the trails. The only areas where dogs may be off leash are the park dog pens that are open to off leash dogs. The 5K Doggie Division participants receive a pet swag item including a custom bandana and a dog biscuit.

Onsite entrants may choose a race swag item of a crewneck sweatshirt or a trucker hat; packet mailing is included for virtual entrants. In person race registration opened on November 25, 2025 and closed January 31, 2026 with listed entry fees for each onsite distance. Trail races at Upland Hills Farm in Oxford, MI include 1 Mile, 5K and 10K courses with student involvement, timing services, finisher medals and t-shirts, plus an end-of-race raffle supporting the school fundraiser.
