Trail Running at Lake Chabot

The Rock the Loch event takes place at Lake Chabot Regional Park in Castro Valley, California. This event features a selection of distances on scenic trails, offering views of the natural landscape. Participants can choose between live in-person races or a virtual participation option.

Participants have the choice of three primary distances:

  • 5 km
  • 10 km
  • 13.1 miles (Half Marathon)

The 5 km course is entirely paved and is situated on flat terrain suitable for those seeking a fast pace. The 10 km course consists of 50% paved surfaces and 50% trails, including one significant climb. The 13.1 miles Half Marathon is a technical course featuring approximately 3 miles of pavement with the remainder on trails, including nearly 1,700 feet of total ascent and descent.

Aid stations are placed along the longer routes. The 10 km has one station at the 3-mile mark, while the Half Marathon includes three stations at miles 4.1, 7.65, and 9.85. These stations provide water, electrolyte drinks, energy gels, salt products, and snacks such as chips and pretzels.

All participants receive a lifestyle t-shirt, a handcrafted woodallion, and a beer sampler stein. The event atmosphere includes a DJ spinning music at the start and finish area. Post-race amenities include various snacks such as yogurt and energy bars, alongside access to a brewfest. Pre-race bib and shirt pickup is available in Oakland the day before the event or at the race site on the morning of the run. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
