The Racing Gnome Snowshoe Race

The Racing Gnome Snowshoe Race is an annual Donner Party Mountain Runners (DPMR) event held on February 8, 2026 at the Prosser OHV Parking Area near Truckee, California. The event offers two distances and a course preview is available for both the 5K and 10K routes.

  • 5K distance race
  • 10K distance race

Runners typically are required to wear snowshoes; in years with thin snow the organizers may permit microspikes instead. The stated registration fee is $25. DPMR members receive a $5 discount when they use a member discount code and members also receive additional event swag.

A limited number of snowshoes are available for use thanks to a donation from Alpenglow Sports; these loaners are provided on a first-come, first-served basis and availability is not guaranteed. Several local Truckee-Tahoe shops rent snowshoes for those who do not own a pair.

Parking at the staging area is somewhat limited, including nearby spaces across Highway 89, and carpooling from town is suggested. Donner Party Mountain Runners is a grassroots 501(c)(3) non-profit running club based in Truckee that organizes this regional snowshoe running event.
