The Rabid Squirrel: Danbury, NC

The Rabid Squirrel is a themed trail event in Danbury, North Carolina billed with a medieval narrative. The route includes named features such as the Tower of Moores, the House of Rock, and the Stone Wolf, and the narrative references river travel on the Dan River.

The course measures roughly 11 miles and includes about 1600 feet of climb and 2400 feet of descent. The route contains two rock scrambles and includes approximately one third of a mile through a river. Aid stations are planned at miles 2.3, 4.5, 5.5, 7, and 8.5.

Logistics note: the event will start at the Lake and finish at the Green Heron Ale House. Organizers ask participants to arrange a ride to or from the start or finish area because volunteers will provide limited car shuttles and there will be no shuttle bus this year. Registration closes on Wed, Jul 1. The presentation and course description emphasize outdoor trail features and on-course assistance rather than competitive format details.
