The Rabid Squirrel
The Rabid Squirrel is a trail race held in Danbury, North Carolina on August 1, 2026. The course is about 11 miles long with roughly 1,600 feet of uphill gain and about 2,400 feet of downhill. Runners will encounter two rock scrambles and a river crossing of approximately one third of a mile.
The route includes several named features and viewpoints, including the Tower of Moores, the House of Rock, and the Stone Wolf. Aid stations are located at miles 2.3, 4.5, 5.5, 7, and 8.5. The event starts at the lake and finishes at the Green Heron Ale House; because the start and finish are in different locations, participants are asked to arrange a ride to or from the start or finish area. Volunteers will assist with limited shuttle rides but there is no shuttle bus for this edition.
The published meeting point is 1110 Flinchum Rd, Danbury, NC 27016. Registration closes on Wednesday, July 1. The event description uses a medieval theme to describe the course and its features. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
