The Purbeck Marathon : race information

The Purbeck Marathon takes place on 20 September 2026 around Swanage in the Purbeck area of Dorset. The event includes a full trail marathon and a shorter route called The Purbeck 16. The route follows coastal and inland paths along the Jurassic Coast and Purbeck Hills and passes features such as Corfe Castle and the abandoned village of Tyneham. The organiser notes community involvement and charity support along the route.

Distances and elevation:

  • 42.5 km marathon route, 1039 metres elevation.
  • 27 km Purbeck 16 route, 640 metres elevation.

The marathon has a published time limit of 7 hours 11 minutes; the Purbeck 16 has a published time limit of 6 hours. Minimum age to enter is 18. Mandatory kit includes a running vest or belt, capacity to carry 500 ml of water, a GPS device with the route uploaded, a fully charged mobile phone, a foil blanket and a whistle. Recommended items include trail running shoes, technical clothing and sufficient fuel.

Trail runs nearby

An evening trail event on 4 July 2026 based at the Fox Inn in Ansty, Dorchester with a 10k course and 220 m of elevation, venue music and food, accommodation options, finisher medals and trophies to third place male and female.

Trail races of 5, 10 and 15 miles take place in Moors Valley Country Park in Dorset on 5 July 2026. The event includes chip timing, feed stations, medical support and a bespoke finisher medal.

A 50 km trail race from Studland Beach along the Purbeck Way that passes coastal landmarks like Old Harry Rocks and Corfe Castle. One runner is appointed the Ferry who starts at the back and competitors aim to finish ahead of them.

A farm based 24 hour solo running challenge in Dorset on 17 July 2026 with camping available over the weekend. Multiple timed events and shorter runs are scheduled and finishers receive a medal and event goodies.
