Peddars Way Ultra : event overview
The Peddars Way Ultra is a point-to-point run of about 48 miles along the historic Peddars Way, starting at Knettishall Heath Nature Reserve and finishing at Holme next the Sea on the Norfolk coast. The route follows a mix of straight tracks, bridleways, footpaths and quiet rural lanes, and is mostly good underfoot. A boardwalk section in the early miles can be slippery or submerged in wet conditions.
Waymarking includes local finger posts and National Trail acorn markings and organisers provide detailed GPS route files. There are three on-course checkpoints and a finish checkpoint with differing facilities: basic cold drinks and snacks at CP1, hot drinks, cold food and toilets at CP2, and basic cold provisions at CP3. The finish venue offers hot food, hot drinks, changing and toilets. Cutoffs are enforced at each checkpoint; maintaining an average of about 4 mph or a 15 minute mile pace is required to meet them. If a wet diversion is used the route may extend by about 2 miles and cutoffs are extended by 30 minutes.
Mandatory kit is required and may be checked; items include a taped-seam waterproof jacket and trousers, a spare warm layer, a headtorch (minimum 100 lumens), hat or buff, gloves, a map or saved route and at least 1 litre of carried water capacity. The event is cupless so participants must carry a reusable cup or use bottles.
Organisers provide GPS tracking for entrants and supply a tracker at registration so friends and family can follow progress. A shuttle bus option is available to transport participants from the finish car park to the start; spaces must be booked and paid in advance. A finish bag service transports one small bag from the start to the finish only. Entry is restricted to those aged 18 or older, and guided runners are permitted but are not eligible for awards unless they enter. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
