The Maverick Peak District X-Trail 2026

The Maverick Peak District X-Trail is a trail running event taking place in Bakewell Showground, Derbyshire, on 30 May 2026. Organised by Maverick Race, the long-distance programme offers two ultra routes that run across the Peak District National Park and through locations including Bamford, Hathersage, Curbar, Froggatt and Stanage.

The route details:

  • 100k Ultra - 101 km, elevation gain +2750 m
  • 50k Ultra - 55 km, elevation gain +1214 m

Routes leave the showground and traverse varied terrain: high moor, river valleys, open moors, forest, rocky climbs and descents, stone steps, sections of the Pennine footpath, and old railway lines. Outposts supply sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drink; they are intended as top ups to what runners carry. The event is working toward plastic free outposts and requests runners bring a reusable cup or bottle.

Mandatory and recommended kit for the 50k and 100k ultras is specified, including waterproof jacket and trousers, additional long sleeve layer, mobile phone, minimum 1 litre water, 800 calories of food, foil blanket, headtorch with spare batteries and GPX of the route. Race packs are not posted and can be collected at Bakewell Showground on the evening before the event. The 100k route has an overall time limit of 18 hours and the 55km route has a 10 hour limit. Dogs are not permitted on the 50km and 100km routes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
