INFERNO - Edale's Ring of Hell
INFERNO is a set of trail races based in Edale in the Peak District. The event offers multiple distances and runs on varied natural terrain. Runners leave Edale and quickly ascend Ringing Roger before following sheep tracks, muddy paths and rocky descents. The route also includes a climb up a waterfall that the organisers note as an unofficial water station.
Distances offered:
- Ultra
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 10 miles
The course is self navigated; organisers provide GPX files and a marked map for download. Long sections between checkpoints mean participants will be self supported for stretches of around 10 to 15 miles, and there are a few streams and a waterfall on the course. A recce of each course can be arranged free of charge if there is sufficient interest.
Organisers list what is included for finishers: a medal, checkpoints with a variety of food, Mountain Fuel snacks and a first aid trained race director. The event follows an eco approach and does not provide plastic cups at checkpoints. Some mandatory kit for Ultra and Marathon must be carried regardless of weather and includes a bivi bag, waterproof jacket, a basic first aid kit and at least 1000 ml of liquid. Failure to carry required kit can lead to disqualification. Entry fees include a donation to local mountain rescue and trail donations to National Trust and Peak District National Park.
