Trail Races in the Peak District

The Inferno - Edale's Ring of Hell is a series of trail races held in the Peak District National Park. The event starts at the Edale Village Hall, located approximately a five-minute walk from a local train station. The routes explore the wild paths of the region, featuring steep ascents such as Ringing Roger and varied terrain that includes sheep tracks, muddy paths, and rocky descents.

Participants can choose from four distinct distances:

  • 41 miles with 10,000 feet of total ascent
  • 26.9 miles with 6,400 feet of total ascent
  • 15.5 miles with 4,000 feet of total ascent
  • 10 miles with 2,700 feet of total ascent

The event is open to both runners and fit walkers, with set cut-off times for completion. Navigation is self-guided, and participants can download GPX files and maps with marked routes. The organizers provide social reconnaissance runs throughout the year to help participants become familiar with the course.

Safety features include experienced sweepers and medical cover provided by a first-aid trained race director. For the two longer distances, participants are provided with GPS trackers for monitoring. Checkpoints are positioned along the routes, stocked with water, fizzy drinks, and a variety of food including vegan options. This is a cup-less event, so participants are required to bring their own reusable cups. All finishers receive a medal upon completion.

The registration fee includes insurance and donations to the National Trust, the Peak District National Park, and local Mountain Rescue. A compulsory kit list is in effect for all distances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
