INFERNO - Edale's Ring of Hell

INFERNO stages four trail race distances from Edale, set on varied Peak District terrain including steep ascents, sheep tracks, muddy paths, rocky descents and a climb up a waterfall. The course starts in Edale, about a five minute walk from a nearby train station, and is self-navigated with GPX files and marked maps provided.

Distances and ascent:

  • Ultra: 41 miles, ~10,000 ft ascent
  • Marathon: 26.9 miles, ~6,400 ft ascent
  • Half Marathon: 15.5 miles, ~4,000 ft ascent
  • 10 miles: 10.5 miles, ~2,700 ft ascent

Runners should expect long self-supported sections with roughly 10-15 miles between some checkpoints. Checkpoints are stocked with a variety of food including vegan options and Mountain Fuel gels; ultra and marathon competitors will also carry trackers for safety. Organisers do not provide plastic cups at checkpoints; participants should bring a cup. Finishers receive a medal. Entry fees include donations to local Mountain Rescue and to conservation organisations. Mandatory kit is required and some items are specified for longer distances, for example a bivi bag, waterproof jacket, basic first aid kit and at least 1000 ml of liquid. Cut-off times apply for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
