Trail Races in the Peak District
Inferno - Edale's Ring of Hell is a trail running event held in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The races start and finish at Edale Village Hall, located near a well-connected train station. The courses feature a variety of terrain including sheep tracks, muddy paths, rocky descents, and a section that involves climbing up a waterfall.
Participants can choose from four distinct distances:
- Ultra: 41 miles with 10,000 feet of ascent.
- Marathon: 26.9 miles with 6,400 feet of ascent.
- Half Marathon: 15.5 miles with 4,000 feet of ascent.
- 10 miles: 10 miles with 2,700 feet of ascent.
The event is open to runners and fit walkers, following a self-navigation format. The organizer provides GPX files and maps with marked routes. For safety, participants in the ultra and marathon distances are equipped with trackers, and all participants must carry a compulsory kit.
Checkpoints are positioned along the routes and are stocked with fuel, a variety of food, and drinks. This is an eco-friendly event, and no plastic cups are provided at the water stations; participants are required to bring their own cups. The registration fee includes a medal for finishers, insurance, and donations to the National Trust, the Peak District National Park, and local Mountain Rescue.
