The Maverick North Downs Trail 2026

The Maverick North Downs Trail takes place in the Surrey Hills, with all routes starting and finishing at the Cranleigh Showground. The event features undulating forest trails and single-track paths through varied terrain, including ancient forests, rolling fields, and punchy hills. The courses wind through Winterfold and Hurtwood Forest, offering views of the countryside from Pitch Hill. Longer distances extend through Leith Hill and Ranmore Common, incorporating sections of the North Downs Way.

Participants can choose from five different distances:

  • 52 km (50k Ultra): +1387 m elevation
  • 43 km (Marathon): +1104 m elevation
  • 22 km (Half Marathon): +597 m elevation
  • 11 km (Middle): +317 m elevation
  • 5 km (Short): +97 m elevation

The event is designed to be plastic-free; there are no pre-filled water cups at outposts, so runners must carry a reusable cup or bottle. Outposts providing snacks, gels, and electrolyte drinks are located at intervals for the Half Marathon, Marathon, and Ultra distances. Mandatory safety equipment for the 43 km and 52 km routes includes a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, foil blanket, whistle, and 1 litre of water.

Facilities at the venue include free parking, a bag drop area, and available food and drink. All courses are fully marked and timed. Finishers receive a metal medal and non-alcoholic beer. The nearest train stations are Chilworth and Shalford, located approximately 18 to 30 minutes from the showground by car or bus. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
