The Maverick East Sussex Trail - Stanmer Park, Brighton
The Maverick East Sussex Trail is a trail running event at Stanmer Park, Brighton, using sections of the South Downs Way and surrounding downland. The routes pass chalky downland tracks, twisting woodland paths and open farmland, and include sustained climbs such as the ascent toward Ditchling Beacon, the third-highest point in the South Downs National Park.
Three route options are offered, each with notable elevation gain to reflect the rolling terrain:
- Half Marathon: 21 km, +457 m elevation
- Middle: 13 km, +339 m elevation
- Short: 5 km, +147 m elevation
Underfoot the course is described as hard-packed and hilly but not highly technical. The event provides fully marked routes, precision fuel and hydration outposts, full timing with online results, event photography, a bag drop area and metal finishers medals. Food and drink are available on site. Outposts supply a mix of sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drink and are intended as top-ups; participants are asked to bring a reusable cup or bottle because outposts aim to be cup-free.
The venue offers pay and display parking at the University of Brighton (Falmer) about a 15 minute walk from the event area, and Falmer train station is within a 5 to 10 minute walk. The Brighton Trail Marathon takes place the following day in conjunction with Brighton Marathon weekend. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
