The Maverick Cotswolds Trail 2027

The Maverick Cotswolds Trail is an off-road trail running event based at Sudeley Castle, Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, within Britain’s largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Routes run through the northern Cotswolds and follow sections of the Cotswold Way and Winchcombe Way, using bridleways, ancient woodland trails and open ridge lines that pass through villages and farmland.

Five route options are offered:

  • 50 km Ultra - +1495 m
  • Marathon 42 km - +1175 m
  • Half Marathon 23 km - +580 m
  • Middle 11 km - +302 m
  • Short 7 km - +97 m

The course includes steep climbs that may require power-hiking, fast descents and long runnable sections. Precision fuel and hydration outposts provide sweet and savoury snacks, gels and electrolyte drink; outposts aim to be cup free so participants should bring a reusable cup or bottle.

Event services listed for participants include free parking, a fully marked course, timing with online results, event photography, food and drink, a bag drop area and a metal finisher medal. The event is dog friendly but spaces for dogs are limited and a dog must be added to the entry to take part with a dog.

Mandatory kit requirements are specified by route. The Half Marathon requires a minimum of 1 litre of water. The Marathon and 50 km Ultra require a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, 800 calories of food, a minimum of 1 litre of water, a foil blanket, a whistle, a self adhering elastic bandage, a cap or buff, a reusable cup and a GPX of the route.
