Maverick Cotswolds Trail 2026

The Maverick Cotswolds Trail takes place at Sudeley Castle in the Cotswold Hills and uses estate land of around 1200 acres. All routes start from the Tudor castle and follow established trails and parts of long distance paths including the Winchcombe, Gloucestershire and Cotswold Way. Courses run through undulating terrain, pass through villages and by ancient sites.

Routes and official distances:

  • 50k Ultra: 51 km, +1383 m
  • Marathon: 43 km, +1069 m
  • Half Marathon: 23 km, +528 m
  • Middle: 15 km, +396 m
  • Short: 7 km, +97 m

Outposts provide top-up food and drink on Middle and longer routes; the Ultra and Marathon have multiple outposts while the Short route has none. Outposts offer self-serve water barrels and snacks; pre-filled water cups will not be provided so participants should bring a reusable cup or bottle. GPX files and route maps are published for each course.

Mandatory kit is specified for longer routes and includes items such as a waterproof jacket, mobile phone, minimum 1 litre water, foil blanket, whistle and a reusable cup. Time cutoffs apply for the Ultra and Marathon. Entries for runners with dogs have sold out. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Facilities include free parking, toilets at the start/finish and at one outpost, bag drop, timing, online results and event photography.
