The Martian Race

Woking, United Kingdom • 21 Jun 2026

Event overview

The Martian Race is scheduled for 21 June 2026 at Horsell Common, Woking, Surrey. The event is organised entirely by volunteers and proceeds are distributed to local charities selected by the Woking Lions. The 2025 event raised over £20,000 for local charities. The race is in its seventh year and the route passes through the historic Horsell sandpits, the site referenced in H.G. Wells novel The War of the Worlds.

Horsell Common is privately owned common land with public access. Almost half of the common is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Organisers state that routes are chosen to respect local flora and fauna, races are kept litter free, and there is a pledge to avoid single-use plastics.
