The Martian Race

Woking, United Kingdom • 21 Jun 2026

Event overview

The Martian Race is scheduled for 21 June 2026 at Horsell Common, Woking. The event is organised completely by volunteers and all proceeds are distributed to local charities selected by the Woking Lions. The most recent run raised over £20,000 for local charities. The race is in its seventh year and the route goes through the sandpits on Horsell Common, the site referenced in the novel The War of the Worlds. Horsell Common is privately owned common land with public access; almost half of the common is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Organisers state that routes are chosen to respect the local flora and fauna, that races are kept litter free, and that the event has pledged to avoid single-use plastics.
