Event Overview
The Longest Day Race is a backyard elimination run held at Lakewood Nature Preserve in Greenville, South Carolina. Participants race from sunrise to sunset on the trails of The Preserve at Lakewood. The course consists of a 2-mile loop format on grass trails with rolling hills and partial shade. The event is part of the Upstate Race Series.
Race Format
The race uses an elimination format. The first lap must be completed within 45 minutes. For each subsequent lap, the time allowed to complete it is reduced by one minute. Participants who fall behind the required pace for a lap must drop out. The runner who first completes Lap 31 (62 miles, or 100k) wins the event.

Participants can choose a personal goal distance, which includes:
- 13.1 miles (Half Marathon)
- 26.2 miles (Marathon)
- 50 kilometers
- 50 miles
- 100 kilometers
Event Details
The event takes place at 220 Lakewood Drive in Greenville. Packet pickup is available one hour before the race start. The course is a 120-acre area of forest with grass paths. Wildlife such as white-tailed deer and box turtles may be seen. There is an aid station on the course offering pickles, cookies, candy, water, Coke, and ginger ale. The event is cup-less, so participants must bring their own bottle or cup.
Additional Information
Entry into the park is included with registration. Participants receive a custom race bib, a finisher medal, event-themed giveaways, a hydration sample, an iced/water towel, complimentary race photos, and a race sticker. There is a post-race party with music.
Camping is available, with options for Friday evening tent setup and overnight camping that can be reserved during registration. Participants are encouraged to bring a 10x10 tent, camp chair, and crew. A $5 refund is offered for referring two friends. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
