The Longbridge 100 Backyard Ultra

The Longbridge 100 is a last-person-standing endurance event held in Alfriston. Participants run a loop of 4.2 miles (6.78 km) every hour on the hour. The race continues until only one runner remains to start a final lap. The event offers both Summer and Winter editions.

The course consists of single paths and farm access roads with a surface of natural chalky flint and gravel tracks. The elevation gain per loop is 180m for the Winter route and 190m for the Summer version. Runners must pick up a token at a specific turnaround point during every loop and return it to the race headquarters to remain in the competition.

Participants have access to the Longbridge Barns, which provide a covered area for runners and their support crews. The facilities include:

  • An aid station with water, fruit, and snacks.
  • A daytime cafe for hot drinks and food.
  • Separate changing areas and toilets.
  • Free power for charging technical equipment.

The event emphasizes sustainable practices, such as being single-use plastic and cup-free. Organizers provide an electric minibus shuttle from Berwick train station to reduce the travel carbon footprint. Entry includes a DNF memento for those who do not finish, while the final winner receives a silver-plated coin and a wool beanie. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
