South Coast Ultra Challenge : overview

The South Coast Ultra Challenge takes place on 5-6 September 2026 along the South Downs Way. Routes run from Eastbourne to Arundel and pass Beachy Head, the Seven Sisters and Brighton on the way. Distances available include:

  • 100 km (full continuous)
  • 100 km (full over 2 days: 57 km + 43 km)
  • 57 km (first half)
  • 43 km (second half)
  • 25 km (quarter)

The full continuous 100 km route lists approximately 2170 m of climb. The two-day option has Day 1 at 57 km with about 1250 m climb and Day 2 at 43 km with about 850 m climb. The 25 km option shows about 690 m elevation.

Format, support and categories

The event is open to walkers, joggers and runners, and entries can be individual or team places with self-fund or charity fundraising options. Organiser categories include an Ultra March option for walkers aiming for time targets and a Trailblazerz category for faster, competitive runners. A Solo Challenger start option and camping packages at a Base Camp with showers are offered.

On-course support includes covered rest stops roughly every 12.5 km, meal stops every 25 km, hot and cold drinks, medical teams, podiatrists and masseuses, baggage pick-up, route signing and GPS tracking via the event app. Shuttle buses and parking are provided at finish areas.
