Event overview

The South Coast Ultra Challenge is scheduled for 5-6 September 2026 on the South Downs Way in the South Downs National Park. The event starts in Eastbourne and finishes in Arundel for the full-route option. Participants may walk, jog, or run as individuals or as part of a team. The organiser provides signed routes, GPS tracking via an event app, marquee rest stops, medical and massage teams, and shuttle transfers and parking at finish locations.

Distances and route

  • 100 km (continuous): Eastbourne to Arundel, ~2170 m climb.
  • 100 km (2-day): Day 1 Eastbourne to Hove - 57 km, ~1250 m climb; Day 2 Hove to Arundel - 43 km, ~850 m climb.
  • 57 km (1st Half): Eastbourne to Hove, ~1250 m climb.
  • 43 km (2nd Half): Hove to Arundel, ~850 m elevation.
  • 25 km (quarter): Eastbourne to Alfriston, ~690 m elevation.

Routes include sections such as Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters and follow coastal and downland terrain.

Categories and support

Options include an Ultra March category for walkers aiming to complete set time targets, and a new Trailblazerz category for faster, more competitive trail runners with adjusted target times. Rest stops are provided about every 12.5 km, with meals about every 25 km, hot drinks and energy drinks at all stops, covered facilities, medical support and baggage services. Camping packages with showers and base camp facilities are available for the two-day option. Finishers receive a medal, t-shirt, and a finishers meal. Trail runs nearby

A scenic 7.5 km trail loop on the 1066 Country Walk with a pub finish at The Plough. Limited to 50 runners, this friendly, marshalled event includes post race tea and cake.

Run among the vines at Rathfinny on 28 December 2025 with two 5 km loops across rolling South Downs terrain. Just 75 places and most of the entry fee supports the WOLO Foundation for families affected by cancer.

Light up the Downslink on a festive 10k headtorch run from Shoreham to Bramber and back, starting and finishing at the Toll Bridge on 29 December 2025. Fully marshalled with an aid station and chip timing, this atmospheric night run awards..

Celebrate New Year's Eve around Ardingly Reservoir with flexible laps so you can tackle 5 km to ultra distances. Fancy dress is encouraged, all finishers get a bespoke memento and virtual entries are welcome.
