Bates Green Gallop

Bates Green Gallop is a six hour trail running event held at Bates Green Farm near Hailsham and the Arlington Bluebell Walk. Participants run repeated laps of a roughly 3.6 mile course and may enter as solo runners or as a relay team of two to four people. Relay teams have only one team member on the course at a time and may change order between laps.

Each lap is waymarked with pink arrows and is roughly 3.6 miles or 5.8 km. The surface is mixed and should be considered a proper trail route: grass, mud, woodland, concrete and loose chippings, with some uneven sections, tree roots and low branches. The route is relatively flat with a couple of climbs toward the end of the lap and is subject to minor changes from year to year. The event takes place on a working farm so planned animal movement may occur.

The event is chip timed by Sport Systems. The aid station is based at the event barn and is available at the end of each lap; items include fruit, cake, potatoes, crisps, nuts, sweets, biscuits, water, cola and squash. The aid station is vegan friendly and the event is cup free, so runners should bring a reusable bottle, cup or hydration pack and a mug for hot drinks. Parking is provided in a large field opposite the farm entrance. Entry categories include several pricing options and unaffiliated runners pay a small additional fee to comply with Trail Running Association rules. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
