THE LAP - Windermere Ultra Anticlockwise

The Lap is a fully way-marked trail ultra-marathon that circumnavigates Lake Windermere in an anticlockwise direction. The course covers a distance of 47 miles (approximately 75 km) through the Lake District. The route is designed to follow the shoreline and surrounding terrain, keeping the lake on the left-hand side throughout the duration of the event.

The course primarily consists of tracks, trails, and single-track paths. It also includes sections of steeper fell paths and short stretches on quiet country roads. As a low-level route, the event is managed to proceed regardless of weather conditions. Participants have a 24-hour time limit to complete the circuit, which visits various viewpoints around England's largest lake.

Participants are provided with a GPS tracker, a map, and a GPX file of the route. The course itself is marked with approximately 2,500 route-marking arrows. There are five fully stocked feed stations along the way, including a halfway aid station that offers a bag drop service. Upon completion, finishers receive a meal and a locally sourced medal.

The event is open to both runners and walkers aged 16 or older. There are no specific qualification requirements, and the race features generous cut-off times. The base for the event is located at Low Cunsey Farm near Ambleside. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
