The Land of Light 100k
The Land of Light 100k is a mixed human powered endurance event held in Norway, Maine, using trails and parcels around Virgil Parris Forest. The event combines trail running and cycling across six different trail systems and finishes at an overlook beside Bear Pond facing Sebago.
Distances
- 100K solo
- 100K duo
The 100k course is composed of 25 km running and 75 km cycling. Competitors must travel between parcels under their own power and may not use a car to move between parcels; cyclists may use any open public road and must obey all traffic laws. E-bikes are not allowed. Organizers will share a recommended route but navigation is the responsibility of racers; GPS devices are permitted. GPS evidence may be requested from racers who are in contention for podium places.
The route begins at Virgil Parris Preserve with a short loop, then includes a bike climb over Streaked Mountain, a 5 km loop at Roberts Farm Preserve, a steep 4 km lollipop at Noyes Mountain, an 8 km rolling lollipop at Shepard's Farm through Witt Swamp, a 4 km loop on the Crooked River parcel, and a final ride to Hawk Mountain for a short 3 km up-and-down to the overlook finish.
Relay teams may swap runner and rider only at transition points or trailheads; midcourse swaps are not permitted. Aid stations are at Robert's Farm (full aid), Noyes Mountain (water only), Shepard's Farm (full aid), and Hawk (water only with leftovers). The event is cupless; racers should carry their own cup or bottle.
All profits support TruStrength Tomorrow, which provides youth scholarships for fitness and mentorship programs in the Oxford Hills School District. Ten percent of proceeds are given to Western Foothill Land Trust.
An awards gathering and podium announcements are planned at 290 Maine Street in Norway, with food and drinks available and the likely location on an outdoor patio. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
