The Hamsterwheel is a timed running event held near the Hillsborough County Fairground entrance in New Boston, NH. The course follows the New Boston Rail Trail along the Piscataquog River to the turnaround at Lang's Station, then returns and follows a gravel service road around the fairground perimeter. The loop is 4.0 miles in total and is described as largely flat with one minor speedbump.
Race formats offered include 30 hours, 30 hours relay, 24 hours, 24 hours relay, 12 hours, 12 hours relay, 6 hours, and 6 hours relay. Loop tracking is managed by Second Wind Timing at the Start/Finish using chipped bibs; bib numbers should be worn on the front of the body and clearly visible. The course will be marked with signs and flags and the turnaround point on the rail trail will be clearly indicated.
Awards include a special belt buckle for individuals who reach 100 miles and a buckle for teams that reach 100 miles. Team entry is available; each team member registers separately and must supply a team name during registration. Pacers are not allowed for the 6 hour event; for 12, 24 and 30 hour events a single pacer per runner is permitted after dark. Pacers and crew must obtain food tickets. Dogs are not allowed on the grounds or to participate.
A central aid station at the Start/Finish provides water, NUUN, Tailwind, sodas, fruit, energy gels and food. Breakfast is provided for 24 and 30 hour runners, and lunch or dinner options are planned for multi hour events. Runners in the 12, 24 and 30 hour events must supply their own headlamps. Tents, small pop up shelters, canopies and RVs are allowed with quiet hours from 10pm to 7am. Camping on the grounds is not permitted before the event or after completion of the 30 hour event; all participants and crews must exit the grounds on Sunday.
The refund policy allows a full refund minus Ultrasignup fees if cancellation is completed through Ultrasignup at least 60 days before the event; within 60 days the fee is forfeited or may be deferred to the following year. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
