The Hamsterwheel, New Boston NH
The Hamsterwheel is a timed running event held near the Hillsborough County Fairground entrance at 17 Hilldale Lane in New Boston, NH. The event is in its twelfth year and offers multiple timed race options over a continuous loop course.
Available race formats include:
- 30 hours individual and 30 hours relay
- 24 hours individual and 24 hours relay
- 12 hours individual and 12 hours relay
- 6 hours individual and 6 hours relay
The loop course is 4.0 miles in total. Runners follow the New Boston Rail Trail along the Piscataquog River to the turnaround at Lang's Station, return to the trailhead, and then follow a gravel service road around the fairgrounds. The course is largely flat with one minor speed bump and will be marked with signs and flags; the turnaround on the rail trail will be clearly identified.
Lap tracking is performed by Second Wind Timing using chipped bibs at the start and finish; bibs should be worn on the front of the body. A central aid station at the start/finish supplies water, NUUN, Tailwind, sodas, fruit, energy gels, and other food. Lunch and dinner options are planned for the 6, 12, 24, and 30 hour runners, and 24 and 30 hour runners also receive breakfast.
Pacers are not permitted for the 6 hour event. Entrants in the 12, 24, and 30 hour races may use one pacer at a time after dark starting at 5pm. Pacers and crew must have a food ticket. Dogs are not allowed on the grounds. Tents, small pop up shelters, and RVs are permitted; quiet hours are 10pm to 7am. Camping on site before the race or remaining on site after completion of the 30 hour event is not allowed. All runners and crews must exit the grounds on Sunday.
Runners in the 12, 24, and 30 hour events must supply their own headlamps. The event awards 100 mile belt buckles for individuals and for teams that complete 100 miles. Team entries require each team member to register separately and to provide a team name during registration.
Refund policy states a full refund minus platform fees if registration is canceled through the registration system at least 60 days before the race. Within 60 days of the event the fee is forfeited or may be deferred to the following year; an email to the Race Director does not constitute a cancellation.
Saturday sunset is listed as 4:30PM and Sunday sunrise as 6:38AM. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
