The Hamsterwheel - New Boston, NH
The Hamsterwheel is a multi hour loop event held near the Hillsborough County Fairground entrance in New Boston, New Hampshire. The course follows the New Boston Rail Trail along the Piscataquog River to a turnaround at Lang's Station, then returns and uses a gravel service road around the fairgrounds. The full loop measures 4.0 miles and is described as largely flat with one minor speedbump. The course is marked with signs and flags and the turnaround on the rail trail is clearly indicated.
Loop tracking uses chipped bibs handled by Second Wind Timing at the start/finish. Runners are asked to place bibs on the front of their bodies for accurate lap counts. A single central aid station at the start/finish supplies water, NUUN, Tailwind, sodas, fruit, energy gels and assorted food; 24- and 30-hour entrants receive a morning breakfast and multi-hour runners may have lunch and dinner options.
Team entries are permitted with each member registering separately and including a team name. Buckles are awarded for individual 100-mile completions and for team 100-mile completions. Pacers, crew and dogs have specific rules: dogs are not allowed on the grounds; pacers are not allowed for the 6-hour event and 12-, 24- and 30-hour entrants may use one pacer after dark. Tents, pop-ups, canopies and RVs are allowed with quiet hours observed. Runners in the 12-, 24- and 30-hour events must provide their own headlamps.
