The Hamsterwheel
The Hamsterwheel is a recurring endurance event held in New Boston, New Hampshire. Participants navigate a 4.0-mile loop course that begins near the Hillsborough County Fairground entrance. The route follows the New Boston Rail Trail along the Piscataquog River to a turnaround point at Lang's Station. Runners then return on the trail and transition onto a gravel service road that follows the perimeter of the fairgrounds.
The course is scenic and primarily flat, offering a gentle surface for runners or those participating in team relays. Lap counting is managed through chipped bibs to ensure accurate mileage tracking. The event offers several timed durations for both individual athletes and teams:
- 30-hour individual race and relay
- 24-hour individual race and relay
- 12-hour individual race and relay
- 6-hour individual race and relay
Participants completing 100 miles individually or as part of a team are eligible for a commemorative belt buckle. For the longer events, pacers are permitted to accompany runners after sunset. One central aid station at the start and finish area provides water, electrolytes, energy gels, and various food options such as soup and pizza.
Competitors in the 12, 24, and 30-hour categories are required to provide their own headlamps for night running. While canopies and RVs are permitted on the grounds during the event, pets are not allowed on the course or fairgrounds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
