The Great Ski Race 2027
The Great Ski Race is a Nordic skiing event held in Tahoe City, California, that serves as the primary fundraiser for the Tahoe Nordic Search & Rescue Team. The event starts and finishes at the Tahoe Cross Country Center. Participants can choose between two main distance options:
- 26 km Nordic ski loop
- 10 km Nordic ski loop
The 26 km route travels around Mt. Watson and features views of north Lake Tahoe with varied terrain on snow. The 10 km route is situated on the lower, undulating trails of the Nordic center. For those who prefer a non-competitive experience, a "Tour Wave" is available for the 26 km distance. This wave is not timed, does not produce online results, and is limited to the first 35 participants to register.
Registration for the event is capped at 800 participants. After the skiing concludes, there is a finish line celebration featuring food and live music. Awards are presented for the fastest overall times for men and women, as well as for various age categories starting from 9 and under up to 20-29 and above in ten-year increments. Proceeds from the registration fees support the purchase of rescue equipment and fund winter survival and avalanche education programs.
Packet pickup for bibs and t-shirts is available on the Friday and Saturday preceding the race, as well as on the morning of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
