The Point Mariah Trail Marathon takes place in the Truckee-Tahoe area, primarily utilizing the protected Royal Gorge land near Soda Springs, California. Runners return to a central aid station on Soda Springs Road after completing each loop before heading out on the next section. Distance Options
Participants can choose from the following registration formats:
- Marathon: An individual race covering approximately 26.4 miles.
- Partner Marathon: A two-person relay team sharing the full marathon distance.
- 5-Person Team: A relay team of three to five runners splitting the five course sections.
Course Details
The marathon course includes approximately 4,300 feet of vertical gain, with elevations ranging from 6,800 feet to over 7,600 feet at Razorback Ridge. The terrain is composed of 85% single track and 15% double track and dirt roads. The route offers views of the Granite Chief Wilderness, the Pacific Crest, and the Royal Gorge of the North Fork of the American River. There is an 8-hour time limit to complete the course.
Logistics
The start and finish line is located at the Soda Springs Ski Resort. Parking is restricted to the resort area, and no personal vehicles are permitted near the central aid station or within the Serene Lakes community. A shuttle service operates between the resort and the aid station for spectators and relay participants.
