The Dartmoor Beast
The Dartmoor Beast is a trail running challenge through Dartmoor National Park on Sunday 27 September 2026. General entries are sold out and a limited number of fundraising entries remain; a waiting list is available.
Participants choose between:
- 20 mile route across open moorland, rivers, bogs, and steep ascents.
- 14 mile route over similar terrain with steep climbs and uneven ground.
The full course covers 3399 ft of ascent and includes a 377 ft section with a 22% gradient to the summit of High Willhays, the highest point in southern England. The shorter route records 2224 ft of elevation gain and visits four tors, while the longer option passes across four to five granite tors.
Event services include a timed and supported route, finishers' medal, finishers' cream tea, and winners' trophies. The route traverses a mixture of moorland and woodland and includes river and bog crossings.
Proceeds from the event support Hospiscare, the local hospice for Exeter, central and east Devon. The organiser has allocated most places to general entries and retains a small number of fundraising places. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
