The Chopwell Gambit

The Chopwell Gambit is a 10 km trail race held in Chopwell Woods in North-East England. It is presented as the inaugural event by organiser TwistedTrails and is licensed by the Trail Running Association. TwistedTrails is affiliated with England Athletics.

The event uses an unusual format in which the finish moment is fixed and known in advance, while each runner chooses when to start within a permitted window. The clock runs continuously from the fixed finish moment, so a competitor’s result depends on their chosen start time; the last competitor to start is declared the winner. Starting too late risks missing the overall cutoff and losing a result.

Entrants must be at least 16 years old on the day of the race. Entries open on 5 February 2026 and close on 9 May 2026. Entry fees are listed at two rates: affiliated and non-affiliated. Registration and entry administration are handled through the SiEntries system.
