The Chopwell Gambit

The Chopwell Gambit is a 10 km trail race set in Chopwell Woods in North-East England. It is the inaugural event organised by TwistedTrails and is licensed by the Trail Running Association (TRA). TwistedTrails is affiliated with England Athletics.

The race uses an unconventional staggered-start format: runners choose when to begin within a designated start window, the clock runs continuously for every competitor, and the overall result depends on each runner's chosen start time. Entrants who return after the event cutoff will not have a valid time. Competitors must be aged 16 or older on the day of the race.

Entries open on 5 February 2026 and close on 9 May 2026. Entry fees are listed as Affiliated £22.00 and Non-Affiliated £24.00. Registration and entries are administered through the SiEntries online system; entrants must log in or register with SiEntries to enter. The entry list showed 14 participants at the time of posting.

Event guidance notes include arriving with sufficient time for registration and the race briefing, and that car parking should be ample while car sharing is encouraged to reduce congestion.
